His library includes more than 400 published volumes containing nearly 1.5 million quotes, plus thousands of other quotes collected from a wide variety of sources.

Bob says that if you’ve ever wondered exactly what constitutes a quotation, and who decides what qualifies for that designation, the late scientist and science fiction writer, Isaac Asimov, came about as close to answering those questions as anyone he’s found. In his Foreword to Isaac Asimov’s Book of Science and Nature Quotations (co-edited by Jason A. Shulman and published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, New York, in 1988), he wrote:

“There are five billion people on Earth, and I should guess that at any given moment one or two billion of us are speaking.
