The Adapt theme caught my eye because it was crafted to work for sites where the focus of your work and recent news is the primary purpose. Additionally, it is 100 percent GPL (General Public License) and free. In short, it looks to me like a great theme for people who need to get a website up quickly and don’t have a big budget to work with. It is very minimal and very easy to setup. It comes with built-in post types for your portfolio, homepage highlights and homepage slider, so adding your content is a breeze. Let’s talk briefly about protecting your WordPress website/blog. One of the biggest causes of WordPress hacks is choosing weak passwords.

You can password protect your wp-admin folder using your cpanel, and at least that way you have 2 passwords that need to be broken in order to gain access to the wp-admin.

File Permissions

It is best to lock down the file permissions as much as you can. Allowing people or applications to have write access to your files can be quite dangerous.

Files

Set permission to 644

Set permission to 755

Cookies are a small text file composed of alphanumeric characters, which is created on your computer when your browser accesses a website that uses cookies. The name cookie derives from UNIX objects called magic cookies. These are tokens that are attached to a user or program and change depending on the areas entered by the user or program.

There are two types of computer cookies: temporary and permanent. Temporary cookies, also called session cookies, are stored temporarily in your browser’s memory and are deleted as soon as you end the session by closing the browser. Permanent cookies, also called persistent cookies, are stored permanently on your computer’s hard drive and, if deleted, will be recreated the next time you visit the sites that placed them there.

Both temporary and permanent computer cookies can be used for many helpful purposes. Automatic registration logon, preserving website preferences, and saving items to a shopping cart are all examples of cookies put to good use. But permanent cookies also resulted in unanticipated uses, such as Web profiling.

Changing the type of font
There are a few different fonts you can use, and the most common are:

Changing the font color
There are many different Web-safe colors that you can use in your HTML. View the HTML Color Codes Chart.

To make text appear in a certain color, use the color codes like this: <font color="#FF0000">.

For example:

Make <font color="#FF0000">this font red</font>will look like:

Make this font red

To set default font colors for the entire page, use color codes in the <body> command. For example, if you want:

font = black

link = blue

‘visited’ link = red

‘while being clicked’ link = pink

use:

<body text="#000000" link="#FFFF00" vlink="#FF0000" alink="#FF00CC">

Including a graphic
To include a graphic in your HTML page, use <img src="URL">.  Be sure to include the entire URL of the graphic, starting with http://.

Including a numbered or bulleted list
To include a list in your HTML page, use <ol> and </ol> at the beginning and end of the list, and use <li>to create the individual lines.

For example:

<ol>
<li>This is line one
<li>This is line two
</ol>will look like:

1. This is line one
2. This is line two

If you want to use a bulleted list instead of a numbered list, use <ul> and </ul> instead of <ol> and </ol>.

AnyFont is a marvelous plugin that allows you to automatically set any TrueType or OpenType font for your post titles, menu items, widget titles or anywhere else you want to use a custom font on your WordPress site. Ryan Peel, who is the developer of this plugin is amazinging responsive to email and fixed an issue for me immediately.

The issue that I encountered was that AnyFont was terribly allergic to the Featured Gallery Content plugin and immediately shut it down because of conflicting javascript libraries. Ryan tells me that he re-wrote the javascript to remove any conflict with the Featured Content Gallery plugin and will be including those changes in all future versions of AnyFont.

If you are on the hunt for free truetype and opentype fonts for Windows and Mac, FontSpace offers more than 13,394 free downloads. What I really like though, is the ability to type in a word in your chosen font family and see instantly what it will look like. This is a time saver!

Just type the word you want into the “customize” box, choose your size and off you go!

“Which Program Should I Buy… Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?” Which One Is Right for You?

If you’re in the market for an image editing software, chances are you’re choosing between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.

Both are excellent software for manipulating digital photographs and images. In this article, I’ll discuss some of the ways the two software are different. Hopefully, after reading this, you can make an informed decision.

Keep in mind Adobe’s intentions when you consider each one. In their website, Adobe says that Photoshop CS4 (the latest version) is ideal for “professional photographers, serious amateur photographers, graphic designers, web designers.”

Unfortunately, Adobe doesn’t tell us whom Photoshop Elements is ideal for. It does say you can “get creative,” “enhance your photos,” “share and protect all your memories” with Elements.

This hints at a more consumer-level (rather than professional) user who manages images for personal use.

With this in mind, Photoshop and Photoshop Elements differ in three main areas: price, ease of use, and features. Let’s go over each one.

1.  Price

Adobe Photoshop costs a whopping $699, while Photoshop Elements is $99.

For many, the price will dictate their choice. Keep in mind, some professionals use Elements even for their work. They use workarounds such as add-ons and other tools to get Elements to do what they need to accomplish. But more on that later.

2.  Ease of Use

With Photoshop geared towards professional image users, you can expect it to be more difficult to use. Elements has a more intuitive, more user-friendly interface.

However, if you’re already familiar with photo editing software, such as earlier versions of Photoshop, then this won’t be much of an issue.

3.  Features

As you might have guessed, the differences in price and ease of use stem from differences in features. Photoshop has functionalities which Elements doesn’t have… and vice versa.

For example, Photoshop has more robust features for manipulating the finer details of a digital image. Here are just some features in Photoshop, which aren’t in Elements:

- CMYK and LAB color modes
- ability to work with 16-bit and 32-bit images
- Layer masks and layer comps
- Adjustment layers for color balance, curves and selective color
- Advanced text formatting, including putting text on a path

But don’t ditch Elements yet. It also has features you won’t find in Photoshop, such as:

- Automatic red-eye removal
- Cookie cutter tool, background templates and artwork
- Photo Organizer, which lets you tag photos and later find them quickly through tags. Photo Organizer also lets you share your photos by creating online galleries, slideshows, photo books and more.

As mentioned earlier, many Elements users find they can do with Elements a lot of the things Photoshop can do. Some of the functionalities are there but need to be “unlocked.”

Add-ons and tools for Photoshop Elements are developed by users of both software. Some are free, while others you need to pay for. These will enhance Elements to be able to do more of the things Photoshop can do.

Whichever software you choose, you have to know how to use it in order to achieve the images you want.
