Create a WordPress Membership Site Today

Wordpress PlatformIf, like me, you like using WordPress for your website/blog, then you’ll love the resource that I recently began using for my web development clients which is aptly named Wishlist. In fact, I will go a step further and say that I am an ardent WordPress Platform fan for way too many reasons to list here.

Many people have tried to turn WordPress into a membership site but in the past it’s been quite tricky. There are some fabulous WordPress plugins out there but to build a membership site you have to “tweak this”, and “tweak that” and if you aren’t technical, it quickly becomes quite frustrating. That’s why I was so excited when I came across WishList Member. I have installed it on several client websites and am now installing it on several of my own business sites. Wishlist is a membership solution that was built specifically for WordPress.

The best part is, it has all the features you would want in a membership solution AND it is compatible with all of your other favorite plugins! So you get the best of both worlds. Plus, they’ve added some very cool features to make running and managing a membership site a whole lot easier. As a Web Developer one of the things that I appreciate the most is the customer support and the support videos.

Like I said, if you like using WordPress, then you’ll love WishList Member.

Enjoy!

Recommended WordPress Premium Templates

WordPress Dream ThemeWe are noticing in my web development company that clients are trending more towards WordPress Platform website/blogs as opposed to the traditional static html website. All of our clients who are online entrepreneurs are very definitely moving away from html sites and we are finding that we are doing as many website rebuilds as we are new development. We are discovering some really wonderful new premium WordPress templates that are highly customizable.

One WordPress template that I highly recommend for people who want to do their own site/blog development on the WordPress platform is the WordPress Dream Theme by “The Internet Genius”, Ben Cope. This theme is Google Adsense ready, is easily integrated with Feedburner, has custom theme options pages, advanced SEO titles and a very flexible navigation menu. You can also use this theme for multiple sites without having to pay for a developer license. In other words, once you purchase the theme, it is yours as long as you are using it on sites that you own. Why is this theme such a great idea for the do-it-yourselfer? You also get one hour of FREE customization by Ben Cope as well as 24/7 email access to Ben.

I also highly recommend Elegant Themes. Here you will find many quite beautiful premium WordPress themes that are expertly coded in valid XHTML and CSS, and all are made compatible with the latest version of WordPress. While I find these templates truly impressive, what is also very impressive is the price. For $19.95 per year you get unlimited access to their entire collection of premium WordPress themes, as well as all themes added in the future. Excellent value!

I would love to see some of the websites built with these premium templates. Please come back after you have launched your site and post a link so we can visit.

How Can I Get On The Internet Without Breaking My Budget?

One of the questions I am often asked is, “How can I get the word out about my business or services without breaking my budget or losing my mind?” I am not kidding, that is often how the question is phrased.

I can think of two things immediately that will help you launch yourself into the incredible world of social marketing.

Are you an expert on something? Cat nip toys, Library operations, power of persuasion? No matter what your area of expertise you can create a Squidoo lens. What’s a Squidoo lens? It is a free, single page online – which translates to a popular way for you to be found on the web and possibly make some money for yourself or a charity. Squidoo lenses are a cross between Wikipedia and a blog. You can sell items on your lens, link to Amazon and much more. So whether your passion is politics, the internet, or enterprise content management, you too can Squidoo.

Are you blogging? If not, you are quite literally standing still on the internet. If you are not blogging, you are not getting your message out. I recommend WordPress as a blogging platform. WordPress is more than just another blog tool, with a little effort you can use WordPress as a fully functioning content managed website. This means that to build an attractive site you won’t need to enlist the help of a web designer or learn any scary languages like PHP or XHTML. Sites can be built on their domain name (http://yoursite.wordpress.com) which I do not recommend if you are serious about your online career, or installed on your own server with your own domain. The best part: the installation and thousands of templates are free.  As they say on their site, WordPress is “just a group of geeks who are passionate about enabling people to publish on the web.” I interviewed Ben Cope, “The Internet Genius” yesterday about this very topic.  Ben has so much information about WordPress to share that we have to have a second interview on May 15. If you missed the call you can hear it on BlogTalkRadio. You will hear Ben discussing Premium WordPress Templates in the interview and you can view that information here: http://wpdreamtheme.com
